Twitter is one of the battlegrounds in the coming 2019 Lok Sabha elections, and new entrants are heating it up as the big fight looms.
BSP leader Mayawati, who joined Twitter in October 2018, became active on January 22, 2019 and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who joined the social media platform on February 11 this year, are the new political leaders on the social media horizon.
The virtual world is no different from the real one, however. In fact, it's probably worse, as the misogyny and casteist abuse these two leaders have attracted online proves. Twitter's verification process stands closed for technical reasons but the platform still gave the blue tick verification badge to both leaders.

Mentions
Mentions are the number of times a particular keyword occurring in a tweet. While the number of mentions for @PriyankaGandhi in the last 20 days crossed 74,000, @Mayawati and @Sushrimayawati stood almost half at 37,000.

Followers
While Mayawati had joined Twitter before Priyanka, her number of followers is still lower than the Congress general secretary. Mayawati has 83.6 thousand followers on Twitter while Priyanka has 189 thousand followers.
Number of tweets
Ever since her joining Mayawati has tweeted around 35 times, with tweets ranging from press release of the BSP to remembering Dr. Ambedkar on January 26 to her opinion on Rafale and SP-BSP alliance.
Priyanka had joined Twitter on February 11 which coincided with the day her first roadshow took place in Lucknow. Though her roadshow made big headlines and trending hashtags, even after two days of the mega event, she didn't post a single tweet.
Popular locations
The maximum mentions for Mayawati came from her state Uttar Pradesh followed by Delhi-NCR and Maharashtra.
Priyanka received the maximum mentions from Delhi-NCR followed by Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Mayawati follows the official handle of Twitter support only, whereas Priyanka follows seven handles - none of whom are women. Priyanka follows brother Rahul Gandhi, Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot, Ahmed Patel, Sachin Pilot, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Jyotiraditya Scindia and the Congress' official account.
