Galaxy Fold

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Samsung may announce the Galaxy Fold at Unpacked 2019 on February 20
  • The Galaxy Fold has been teased with two displays, one of which will be foldable
  • The Galaxy Fold could cost around $1800
Samsung's Unpacked 2019 event on February 20 is going to be massive. All the signs point towards a packed event where the company will be announcing the Galaxy S10, S10e and S10+ flagship phones alongside the Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Buds. Now, Samsung may have just confirmed that it will also launch its foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, at the event as well.
Samsung posted a teaser video on Twitter with a caption "The future of mobile will unfold on February 20, 2019," which is a pretty obvious reference to its foldable smartphone. The company first teased the device back in November and then showcased it to a limited number of people at CES in January. It seems Samsung wants to get out ahead of Huawei (which is expected to announce its own foldable smartphone at MWC on January 24) by announcing the Galaxy Fold at Unpacked 2019.
Recently, an official promo video leaked out, briefly showing off the foldable smartphone. Based on what we have seen so far, it seems that the Galaxy Fold will come with two displays: A large 7-inch foldable AMOLED display and a secondary 4-inch display. You will be able to use the large display with the device unfolded as a tablet, or you can fold the display down the middle to close the device in a clamshell, using the smaller display as a smartphone. That's what Samsung teased back in November, and this is likely what the final device will look like.
The Galaxy Fold is expected to come with an Exynos 9820/ Snapdragon 855 chip under the hood. The phone is also said to come with 512GB of internal storage and it could cost around $1800 (approx Rs 1,28,000). The foldable phone will likely house two 2,190mAh batteries which makes a total of 4,380mAh.
Samsung has confirmed that it will initially make 1 million units of the Galaxy Fold. If the reaction towards the foldable smartphone is positive, the company will look to manufacture more units. It is still unclear whether the Galaxy Fold will be coming to India or not.
