Hyundai Motor India has rolled out the first Venue compact SUV from its manufacturing plant near Chennai ahead of the vehicle's launch on May 21. Hyundai Venue will mark the entry of the company into the compact SUV segment. Although the carmaker has not come with the official prices yet, we are expecting it to be priced competitively.
The official bookings for Hyundai Venue started on May 2. The compact SUV can be booked by paying Rs 21,000 through the company website or at any Hyundai dealership. On the first day itself, Hyundai received over 2,000 bookings for Venue.
The first Hyundai Venue was rolled out on May 6. "This is a proud moment for us at Hyundai. On this day 23 years ago, Hyundai entered India with a promise to make cars that will set new benchmarks in the industry. And today we are set to create history again with the global first - roll out of Venue, which will usher the future of connected mobility in India," Hyundai Motor India MD & CEO S S Kim said in a statement on May 6.
Hyundai Venue was unveiled in India on April 17, along with its global showcase at the New York International Auto Show. The upcoming compact SUV will jostle for market share against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. Another major rival will be Mahindra XUV300, which has been receiving a good response as well.
"Our future-ready plant is excellently equipped with smart engineering technology to create a game changer SUV, Hyundai Venue for our customers. Venue, with its striking looks and connected technology, will definitely appeal to the new generation customers eagerly waiting for a product that mirrors their lifestyle and aspiration to lead a happy life," Kim said.
Hyundai Venue will get two petrol engine options with a total of eight variants. There will be a diesel option as well and it will have five variants. The compact SUV will come with a 1.0 Kappa Turbo GDi petrol engine, a 1.2-litre MPI petrol motor and a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi mill. Only the Turbo GDi petrol engine will have an option for an automatic transmission, with the rest being available with manual gearboxes only.
The sales of Hyundai Motor India are expected to get a boost following the launch of the Venue compact SUV. In April 2019, the company had witnessed a 1.6 per cent decline in sales to 58,805 units. Hyundai Venue is one of the top five upcoming vehicles in India, with the rest being MG Hector, Tata Altroz, Toyota Glanza and Jeep Compass Trailhawk.
"The Hyundai mega manufacturing plant with its advanced manufacturing 4.0 production equipped with over 590 - generation 4 robots, quality and testing capabilities along with flexible engine plants, is completely equipped for the mass production of India's first connected SUV - Hyundai Venue," the company said.
Hyundai Venue will be feature-rich. Its most stunning feature is expected to be the global connectivity solution 'BlueLink'. The upcoming compact SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
