Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn-starrer Bhuj The Pride Of India went on floors in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The film is based on true events happened during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.
While Ajay Devgn plays an Indian Air Force Officer Squadron Leader (later Wing Commander) Vijay Karnik, Sanjay Dutt will be seen portraying the role of a civilian who helps the Indian forces during the war.
In March this year, Bhushan Kumar, producer of the film, took to social media to announce the film. He wrote, "Collaborating with @ajaydevgn once again, for #BhujThePrideOfIndia, based on Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik. The film will be directed by #AbhishekDudhaiya @TSeries #KrishanKumar #SelectMediaHoldingsLLP #GinnyKhanuja @vajir."
Talking about the film, Bhushan Kumar told a leading daily, "This courageous tale needs to be told because we want the current and the coming generation to know about this brave soldier, Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, who played a significant role in India’s victory in the 1971 war. He was heroic enough to take this bold step of involving civilians in a war. Also, who better than Ajay Devgn for the role of Vijay Karnik? We are working with him currently in De De Pyaar De and Taanaji, and we are glad that he is on board for this film, too."
Then Squadron Leader, Vijay Karnik was in-charge of the Bhuj airbase in Gujarat during the Indo-Pak war of 1971. He along with 50 Air Force and 60 DSC personnel survived heavy bombing from Pakistan to keep the Bhuj airbase operational during the war.
Directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya, the film also stars Parineeti Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha, Rana Daggubati and Ammy Virk. Bhuj The Pride Of India is set to hit screens on August 14, 2020.
